....riding a powerful horse across the open field in the fresh morning air with 12 other men who are on the same journey, the journey to reclaim something that was lost during the busyness of life...their sense of purpose!
The days are spent exploring the rugged terrain with the smell of sagebrush lingering ever-present in the air and delving into meaningful discussions about matters that often sit heavy in the hearts of men.
The evenings will be steeped in deep conversation around an open fire, talking about important things with like-minded men, all the while being surrounded by the rugged natural beauty of the sweeping landscape.
The is an old adage from Buddisihm that states that "life is suffering" but the deeper meaning is that life is in constant flux, and to be able to adapt to the ever-changing landscape "we must be predictable to ourselves".
This is the essence of the masculine spirit, the deep commitment and acceptance of the role we must play to take our place in the order of things.
Never has there been a time in history here the call has been put out to men of all ages to step up and adopt their role as servant leaders, warriors for what is right and honorable, and to shed off the weakness of character that has crushed the spirit of many men.
It's time for you to be the hero of your story!
David Gilks has coached thousands of men and women throughout his 30-year career, which has taken him from his work in his early day's training in integrated health at his family clinic and then into the world the neuroscience of movement and mental health.
This journey was started in the early '90s as David returned from traveling the world, lost, angry, and frustrated. He landed on his father's doorstep at the age of 28, with no education, poor health, broke, and no idea of what his role was to be in the world, but knew he was better than he had been showing up.
Since that time David began his own hero's journey, tackling the fire-breathing monsters of his past, and learning that courage, truth, and compassion, were to be his sword and shield, his tools in carving out a life of meaning for himself and his clients.
David currently works as a mental health consultant/coach to private clients, as well as volunteers within the addictions world and a local correctional center.
He is also the strength coach to the US Women's Rugby Leauge, and after leaving his practice as the Medical Exercise Program Director, has gone back to complete his training in Medical Neuroscience at Duke University to deepen his understanding and impact in the world.
